Festivals

Each of our community festivals are brought by parents who feel a connection to that specific celebration. They are given guidance and support to create a rich experience for our families. As such, our festivals are held by people who have deepened their understanding of it and are holding it for the group - and in turn the community is able to live into it.

In addition to traditional Waldorf festivals, we strive to represent our community. We are continuously working in relationship with each other in order to learn and grow. We are always open to celebrating other festivals.

We celebrate four festivals outside of class.

Michaelmas

Michaelmas is at the very heart of our organization. The children learn songs and verses in the lead up to the festival and put on a play. A puppet show of St. George and the Dragon is performed, we roast bread on sticks over a campfire, and may even have a tug-o-war battle. We find our inner strength in ourselves and witness it in each other to prepare for the winter months ahead.

harvest

At Harvest we gather for a simple day of stone soup, potluck, seed sharing, gratitude garland, and community singing.

candlemas

Candlemas is celebrated after we return from Winter holidays and is a gentle evening ceremony. A meal may be shared and an activity or craft is done. We end our time together by gathering around an old tree, unlit candles held in each hand, and passing the flame around the circle.

whitsun

Whitsun is celebrated as an end-of-the-school-year festival on our last day of classes. Flower crowns are made and a story is told. Children and parents are honored in ceremony and gifts and a meal are shared.
